Plywood Handling & Storage

Movement, Moisture & Storage

Why panels move

All timber-based panels are hygroscopic - they absorb and release moisture in response to their environment. This is a natural characteristic of wood in general. Changes in humidity can cause panels to expand, contract or bow.

How to store panels

Panels should be stored flat on a level surface, supported evenly across their full area. Stack them horizontally - never lean panels against a wall. Keep them in a dry, well-ventilated space away from direct heat sources and damp floors.

Acclimatisation before use

Allow panels to acclimatise in the environment where they will be installed. A minimum of 48 hours is typical, though larger or thicker panels may need longer. This allows the moisture content to equalise with the surrounding conditions, significantly reducing the risk of movement after installation.
