Balancer Veneer
To maintain the structural balance of the panel and prevent bowing, the reverse is also veneered. The "balancer" will be a low cost randomly selected veneer that is not intended to be seen. It will not match the face.

Edge Trimming
As standard, panels are supplied with unfinished "factory edges" which we recommend are trimmed prior to use i.e. 2440 x 1220 trimmed to 2400 x 1200.

What is Veneered Plywood?
Veneered plywood is a plywood core panel faced on both sides with a thin layer of real wood veneer, combining the structural benefits of plywood with a far wider range of decorative finishes. Common core panels include birch, poplar and pine, chosen for their availability, quality of construction and compatibility with veneering. Decorative species are not made into plywood panels due to prohibitive cost, log availability or unsuitable structural properties. A solid oak panel, for example, would cost considerably more than an oak veneered plywood panel.
Plywood is an engineered wood in which the plies are glued together with the grain of each layer laid crosswise to the one before. This criss-cross structure gives plywood remarkable stability and strength. Where birch plywood is used as the core, the face grade will usually be BB, meaning no open knots or defects, giving a stable, solid surface to bond veneer onto.

Alternative cores include MDF, chipboard and blockboard. These offer good dimensional stability but lack the strength and multi-layered edge detail that make plywood the preferred choice among designers.
The Advantages of Veneered Plywood
Natural finish
Unlike melamine or laminates, real wood veneered panels have character and natural variation that cannot be replicated. Patterns on wood-effect panels repeat, which is especially noticeable on larger projects where many panels are seen together. Each real-wood veneer panel is genuinely one-off.
Cost-effective aesthetics
The appearance of solid wood at a lower cost, allowing furniture and surfaces in desirable species without the price of solid timber.
Stability and strength
The multi-layered construction produces a strong panel with a reduced likelihood of warping or twisting.
Ease of workability
Easily cut, shaped and finished, with consistent core properties across panels. Practical when planning fixings, joists and weight calculations.
Wide range of veneer options
Plywood is produced from relatively few timber species, so veneering is what opens up the full range of colours and grain, letting designers and architects achieve specific preferences.
Consistency in appearance
Matched veneers create a more uniform appearance than standard plywood can achieve: an advantage on large projects where a cohesive look is required.
Environmental certification
